Objectives and skills
Program, organize, manage and execute, autonomously or in a team, the activities of a holding in Organic Production Mode (MPB) the techniques of production and transformation of organic products, including water and soil management, plant breeding practices, pest and plant disease control, animal health and welfare, and certification, quality control and farm food security in the field of MPB.
Main activities
- Analyze projects and other technical specifications in order to identify the data needed for work guidance and delivery;
- Program, organize and guide the execution of the operations and tasks inherent to the implementation of the exploitation annual plan in organic farming, ensuring the quality of products obtained and optimal levels of productivity and compliance with standards for protection of ecosystems and food and work safety;
- Carry out the cultural operations necessary for crops installation and development, taking into account the species, soil and climate conditions, available resources, in organic production mode;
- Ensure the adoption of appropriate direct and indirect measures for crop protection, irrigation management and fertilization according with the principles of organic farming and wwith the legislation in force;
- Organize and guide the execution of operations and tasks inherent to livestock farming in organic farming, ensuring the quality of the products obtained, compliance with standards for protection of ecosystems and animal health;
- Organize and guide the execution of the operations and tasks of conservation, transformation, storage and transport of organic products destined to commercialization, according to the legislation and references of applicable quality and the requirements of the market;
- Conduct operational management and maintenance control, conservation and repair of agricultural machinery, tools and facilities;
- Operate and regulate agricultural machinery and equipment according to the occupational safety standards and the protection of ecosystems;
- Ensure the management and treatment of by-products of the holding, according to the current legislation and the sustainable management of resources;
- Explore and apply information and communication technologies in the agricultural operations planning and execution and in information in collection and processing;
- Systematize technical and economic information and prepare reports on agricultural activity;
- Identify new markets, forms of commercialization, ways of valuing organic products and investment needs, preparing proposals for organization and management.

Access to bachelor degrees (1st Cycle)
Students with approval in all training components of the CTeSP, will be holders of a Diploma of Higher Professional Technician in Organic Farming, being able to apply directly, through a special contest, to the ESAV Degree course of Agronomic Engineering.
During the course of studies a broad set of curricular units carried out in the CTeSP will be credited on the Degree courses mentioned above.

Component in work context
The training component in the context of work aims to apply the guideline and knowledge acquired to the practical activities of their professional profile.
The training component in the work context (internship) lasts for one semester and is ensured through protocols that ESAV has established with the entities or companies of the Viseu region and in specific cases of the bordering regions.
